My new favorite quote

If you are thinking a year ahead, sow seeds;
If you are thinking ten years ahead, plant a tree;
If you are thinking one hundred years ahead, educate the public.

My favorite quote:

The whole environmental extremist movement is based on doing Good Things, in utter disregard of costs or diminishing returns.

The idea that DDT might leave residues with harmful effects on the eggs of some birds was enough to set off a worldwide environmental crusade to ban the use of that insecticide. The resurgence of malaria after that ban has cost millions of human lives.

Green zealots are not about to reconsider, on this or a whole range of other issues. Their vision triumphed, their superior wisdom and virtue were affirmed, and that is what it is ultimately all about. To admit, even to themselves, that their ego trips have cost other people their lives would be too much.

To Thomas Sowell (Wes B)-

The lives saved by banning DDT far outweigh the ones lost by malaria.

Most insects have become resistant to DDT. Beyond that, other insecticides exist that could serve the same purpose.

I just stumbled accross this blog and I don't have a user name, so don't be too offended by the anonymous nature of this comment.

What will always elude me is why some people take personal offense to the "green movement" - as if the movement were insulting their own way of life, and perhaps, intiating an unwelcome force on people to reexamine the way they live, realizing negative impact can be reduced.

Also, your quote is silly. If you like cheap linguistic tricks, then it would probably appeal to you. The "whole environmental extremist movement" is just a nice way to belittle an entire group.

Go ahead and keep making false claims, and the green movement will make their claims, and the circle will remain unbroken!

Also - I read Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring."

Simply put, there are other ways to fight malaria without using DDT.
